Suffering from Aulophobia?

What is Aulophobia?

Aulophobia- Fear of flutes.

A series of experiments were carried out (using skin conductance responses measured electrically as an indication of fear) upon specific phobics and non phobic controls. The phobic subjects were fearful of either snakes or spiders.

All the subjects were shown a series of slides, depicting snakes, spiders, flowers and mushrooms. However, some of the pictures were disguised (masked) and unrecognisable because they had been cut up, reassembled at random and re photographed.

It was discovered that phobic people showed measurably increased fear in response to both masked and unmasked slides of their particular phobic stimulus, supporting the theory of the existence of pre-attentive mechanisms.
